Learning Objectives

Level II Operative Arthroscopic procedures are intended for patients for whom surgical interventions for pathologies diagnosed during Level I Arthroscopy exceed the limits of Level I Arthroscopic procedures and require a second puncture or operative port.  Surgical interventions for Level II are classified into 2 groups:

  • Group I (Level IIa) includes biopsy of soft tissue, release of fibrotic adhesions, advanced targeted deposition of medications, and thermal contracture.
  • Group 2 (Level IIb) includes debridement of soft tissue and bone, including of bone utilizing advanced instrumentation, thermals (coblation devices and Holmium laser) or motorized equipment (that is, shavers or abraders)

The more advanced procedures such as disc repositioning or discopexy are reserved for Level III Operative Arthroscopy.

In this module we will cover:

  1. Operative Arthroscopy Overview
  2. Equipment Inspection and Validation
  3. Placement of Arthroscope during Second Puncture Procedure
  4. Locating the Second Puncture Site
  5. Executing the Second Puncture and Placement of Operative Port
  6. Arthroscopic Surgery
  7. Transitioning from 1.8mm to 2.7mm Systems
  8. Closing Procedures for Level 2 Arthroscopy
